Darla is an 8-piece experimental funk group formed in 2014 in Philadelphia. Self-described ‘basement blender funk,’ the Darla sound is a fusion of their origins in the Philly basement rock scene along with a strong influence from 70s jazz/funk composition and improvisation. At its core, Darla is driven by a powerful saxophone duo wielding lyrical melodies with a jarring yet methodical rhythm section that has been called ‘Steely Dan with Dave Grohl on drums’.
Darla has shared the stage with the likes of Snarky Puppy, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, The Disco Biscuits, George Porter Jr. (of The Meters), Kamasi Washington, Bill Laurance, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles. Darla was born ready to share their funk across the eastern seaboard.
