Anika Nilles is a German drummer and composer whose musical journey has taken an unexpected and distinctive path. Boasting over 23 million views on social media platforms performing her original music, she kicked off her career in 2013 and appeared as one of the most influential modern drumset artists of the 21st century over the years. Playing with sophistication, style and a musical finesse, she is an inspiration to women the world over in what has been a traditionally male- dominated industry. Known for her energetic, melodic and musically adept playing, she has been touring the world for many years, with English guitar legend and multiple Grammy Award winner Jeff Beck, and in October 2025 was selected as the new touring drummer for Rush.
With her band NEVELL, she creates a masterfully innovative mixture of urban jazz, modern funk with progressive elements; carefully combining virtuosity with catchy melodies. Nevell take their audiences on an instrumental journey while effortlessly blending composed pieces with spontaneous improvisation, that unfolds in a playful musical dialogue, creating an unforgettable show full of passion, energy and artistry.
Besides releasing various singles, and a self-tiled 6-track EP in 2014, Anika released her debut album 'Pikalar' via Sakurai Records in 2017. The album climbed its way to number 113 on the 'iTunes 200 Top Rock Releases' chart in the USA - a remarkable feat for a mostly instrumental album. The drumming community voted the album #2 in France and #4 in the UK in the 'Album of the Year' category in 2017.
Her second Album 'For a Colorful Soul', featuring her band NEVELL, followed in 2020, and an EP called 'Opuntia' in 2022. 'For a Colourful Soul' reached #3 of the iTunes Top 40 Jazz charts in the US as well as #3 in Germany.
